Yi Younggu 7p

In final of Korean preliminary to ING Cup Yi Younggu 7p face Kang Dongyun 7p. Kang Dongyun 7p is very strong player with already two national titles (Electron-Land Cup and Osram Cup), but recently Yi Younguu is in good form.

Surprisingly playing black stones choose very aggressive joseki on left side. In result of first fight White get nice influence and after White 46 black was forced to invade. Kang Dongyun play typical tesuji for this situation - Black 49 - and manage to get some points on upper side. Yi Younggu of course strengthen his influence in centre.

Everything seems to be fine, but after Black 89 white group on right side was in big danger so Yi Younggu was forced to add some stones to link it with the rest. Unfortunately this give chance black do destroy black moyo in centre. Black was leading in territory, but white has strong groups so it was only a matter of time when he start new fight. White 94 started the biggest and last fight in the game. The result on right side was ko which Kang Dongyun won after giving up group on left side. Of course it wasn’t enough to win so he tried to kill Yi Younguu group on bottom side. Yi Younggu show again that he is immortal and after 230 moves Kang Donyun 7p resign.

Yi Younguu 7p advance to ING Cup and will represent Korea with 5 other players: Yi Changho 9p, Yi Sedol 9p, Choi Cheolhan 9p, Park Yeonghun 9p, Song Taekon 8p. The first round of ING cup will be around April.
