25 April ended the biggest preliminary to international tournament: LG Cup. Before it starts I predicted that final outcome will be 9-7 and i was right :) Today outcome is 9 Korean and 7 Chinese player. Unfortunately some “my” players lost final game :(

Wang Yao vs Lee Minjin

The biggest upset made Lee Minjin 5p losing to Wang Yao 6p

Lee Minjin play a lot good games in this preliminary and was very close to enter main tournament. Unfortunately she lost this game and it’s pity that only males will play in tournament.

Park play for big moyo very succesful

Park Jungsang 9p beat Yang Yi 6p B+R

This was very interesting game. First Yang Yi start with special stretegy of white 6. Recently i study this pattern a lot, thanks to O Rissei book: “Catching Scent of Victory”, so seeing this move in recent pro game was very enjoyable. Later Park Jungsang goes for moyo and in the end show great position of judgment.

Tuo Jiaxi beat Ryu Jaehyeong

Tuo Jiaxi 3p beat Ryu Jaehyeong 8p

Tuo Jiaxi is rising star in China. After his victory over Chen Yaoye 9p in semifinal of preliminary it was only issue of time when he would play in main tournament.

Yu Bin fights a lot in ko fighting but in the end lost by 4,5 points

Baek Hongsuk 6p beat Yu Bin 9p B+4,5

Very interesting game. Yu Bin show today that he can fight even with younger players. Yu Bin set a lot of ko fights, but in second ko he was forced to give up some stones in bottom left corner. In the end Baek Hongsuk won by secure margin 4,5 points. It’s good that veterans are showing younger generation that they also can fight, but on second side it is good that younger players are winning.

Kang Dongyun beat Iyama Yuta

Kang Dongyun 7p beat Iyama Yuta 7p B+2,5

Kang Dongyun again play very solid from beginning to the end and beat Iyama yuta with secure margin of 2,5 points. Iyama Yuta was the best card of Japanese team in this content. After his lost Japan need to wait to reborn on international scene.

Choi Cheolhan again advance to LG Cup

Choi Cheolhan 9p beat Song Taekon 8p

Kim Seongjae advance to LG Cup

  1. They look like very easy-going interesting people. The photos give me a glimpse of the professional baduk world.

We are also left wondering how the t-shirt slogans finish:

    From Small Beginings …
    Follow the spirit of …

    Thanks for the photos
