13th LG Cup - Round 1
Filed Under (LG Cup) by Tomasz Ślązok on 26-05-2008
26 May 32 players play in 13th edition of LG Cup. Unfortunately one of my fav baduk master - On Sojin lost in preliminary
Another big upset made today Han Sanghoon 3p, who was playing against Kono Rin 9p. Han Sanghoon put a lot of efforts on left side, but in the same time Kono Rin gets a lot of points in other places. After 161 moves, 2nd place from 12th LG Cup end his journey in 1 round. Very pity
LG Cup is one of the most important Baduk tournament, so organization prepare something for professional to relax before tournament:
Some baduk masters like to play e-baduk before tournament (last training?), so there were plenty of places to play baduk by internet.
On Cyberoro I even found interest gif which show (who?? can you recognize who??) someone is jumping over small river ;p
Of course the LG Cup in 90% is about strong baduk. There was a lot of higher level games. Especially Lee Sedol 9p from Korea vs Cho U 9p from Japan. This game was the most complex game in this day. After 278 moves Lee Sedol 9p won by resignation.
Even after game professionalls were commented this game very lively. Other Korea star Lee Changho 9p won his game very quickly. After 116 moves Xie He resigned.
Results of 1 round:
- Lee Sedol 9p vs Cho U 9p W+R
- Kim Jiseok 4p vs Wang Tao 2p W+3,5
- Cho Hanseung 9p vs Tuo Jiaxi 3p B+R
- Chang Hao 9p vs Park Jungsang 9p B+R
- Won Sungjin 9p vs Li Kang 6p W+R
- Mok Jinseok 9p vs Gu Li 9p B+R
- Kong Jie 7p vs Kim Hyungwan 4p B+1,5
- Yamashita Keigo 9p vs Kim Seongjae 1p W+R
- Han Sanghoon 3p vs Kono Rin 9p B+R
- Wang Lei 8p vs Baek Hongsuk 6p B+R
- Kang Dongyun 7p vs Cho Chikun 9p B+R
- Lee Changho 9p vs Xie He 7p W+R
- Shi Yue 4p vs Choi Cheolhan 9p W+R
- Kim Hyungwoo 2p vs Qiu Jun 8p B+R
- Zhou Junxun 9p vs Park Yeonghun 9p B+5,5
- Choi Kihoon 1p vs Wang Yao 6p B+R
9 Korean, 4 Chinese and 3 Japanese. 1 round was very succesful for Japan team so I was very corious if some Japanese will advance to 3rd round. Kim Hyungwan show great result by beating Kong Jie i will watch him very carful in future. Next round will be played 28 May after one day break. Paring will be following:
- Lee Sedol 9p vs Kim Jiseok 4p
- Cho Hansung 9p vs Chang Hao 9p
- Won Sungjin 9p vs Gu Li 9p
- Kim Hyungwan 4p vs Yamashita Keigo 9p
- Kono Rin 9p vs Baek Hongsuk 6p
- Cho Chikun 9p vs Lee Changho 9p
- Shi Yue 4p vs Kim Hyungwoo 2p
- Park Yeonghun 9p vs Wang Yao 6p
The most interesting thing in this pairing is Lee Changho oponents this pairing is replay of Lee Changho pairing from Ing Cup. In Ing Lee Changho play in 2 round with Xie He and won by resignation with white stones, in 3rd round he play against Cho Chikun and won by 3 points. I’m corious if he again won against Cho Chikun in LG Cup.
