Hello before new year i want to tell you about another move in corner: komoku (3-4). Komoku is not so strong like san-san, because it is on 4th and 3th line so from one side corner is open and it needs one more move to secure the territory in corner. There is 4 standards moves to enclosure corner (A-D on Diagram). The Most popular moves are A and B. Moves like C and D are very rare but if one player are influence-oriented that this kind of move is very natural for him. Today Professional likes much more territory than influence, so we can find many example of good use of enclosure at A and B.
The first question is about difference. The move at A give as strong position in corner. Move B give us also strong position in corner but the corner is open because all moves is on 4 line so attack on third line is very dangerous for our territory. The good news is that if you play B the corner enclosure have bigger influence on the side, so in the future you can develop on the side very quickly. If you want territory in corner move like A is good enough, but if you want more territory on the side than B is much better.
Of course opponent won’t wait until you secure your corner. If opponent want to attack your corner he needs to play in one of 4 moves (A-B in Diagram). Of Course Moves A and B are most popular. The sequence after opponent attack is very complicated and i will discuss this topic in future. For today you need to know that komoku is similar to san-san but have some weakness and in return komoku have more influence on the side. Komoku is much more balanced that san-san.
