Today South-West Qiwang ended. Final game unfortunately wasn’t very enjoyable. Gu Lingyi 5p and Li Jie 5p start very peaceful. Black 13 is very interesting. This move is worth to study. After first fight in upper side black build huge myo in center, but white 48 was very cool move :)
In my opinion white 77 is overplay and black 79 is winning move. Latter white invade in right side but Gu Lingyi kill the invader :) In the end black play nice tesuji (black 161) but even without it he was leading by secure margin. After 163 moves Li Jie resign.

Gu Lingyi 5p is South-West Qiwang champion for second year.

Unfortunately Dang Yifei 1p lost to Gu Lingyi 4p by 1,5 point. Again Dang Yifei play very solid and give up many stones but this time it was too much :( In second game Li Jie 5p beat Wang Lei 8p by 0,5 point.

The final will be played tomorrow. Can Gu Lingyui defend title from last year? In many interview Gu Li said that Gu Lingyi is one of the strongest young Chinese go masters, so I’m very curious when Gu Lingyi will start playing in international tournament and win his first international title.

7th South-West Qiwang

Today in China was held 7th South-West Qiwang. This is lightning tournament. First 2 round were in one day! The biggest suprise was Lee Younggu 7p from Korea. Korean player in Chinese tournament is very rare. Except Lee Younggu 7p defeat to Dang Yifei 1p, first round end without big surprise.

In second round the paring was:

  • Gu Lingyi 4p vs Piao Wenyao 5p
  • Wang Lei 8p vs Nie Weiping 9p
  • Li Jie 5p vs Wang Xi 9p
  • Gu Li 9p vs Dang Yifei 1p

Gu Lingyi won Quiwang last year and this year he seems to be unstoppable. Next two games end without big problems. To semifinal enters: Gu Lingyi 4p, Wang Lei 8p, Li Jie 5p and …

The biggest surprise is Dang Yifei 1p who beat in first round Lee Younggu and in second round China #1 Gu Li 9p. Let’s look at second game:

Gu Li 9p took black stones and choose small Chinese opening. Black 7 is very rare move, but black 9 i seen first time in my life. Normally after white 8 black play hane at 12.

In game after white 16 situation seems to be even, but black 17 and 19 is little submissive. IMHO play for territory with Chinese opening is bad idea. In China you can of course fight everywhere especially if you are Gu Li 9p, but after 20 white looks little better. next black invade in bottom left corner and made living shape on the left side.
It was very enjoyable to see white solid style. First he secure upper left corner and when Gu Li attack his weakness he simply sacrifice three white stones and play at 50 making moyo in center really huuuge.

Black of course invade, but situation was very hard for him. Gu Li hadn’t enough time to secure upper right corner and with white 98 Dang Yifei made a life.
The most interesting was white answer to black 1 from Dia. 2. White was really strong move. In sequence to white 16 black lost big group. Of course he secure many points on right side but now white leading is more than 15 points.

After 148 moves Gu Li 9p resign

Dang Yifei 1p vs Gu Li 9p W+R

The semifinal will be held tomorrow with following pairing:

  • Gu Lingyi 4p vs Dang Yifei 1p
  • Wang Lei 8p vs Li jie 5p

We can say that Dang Yifei is Chinese Han Sanghoon. Dang Yifei is also playing in Chinese A League, so we will see more of his game in near future.
